Patient alleges dentist failed to diagnose tooth infection, decay

Medical malpractice 01

BELLEVILLE — A patient is suing a deceased dentist and Lincoln Place Dental for allegedly failing to diagnose several infections and areas of tooth decay.

Linda Cassin filed a complaint on Aug. 1 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against the estate of Gerald Dortch, D.M.D., deceased, and Lincoln Place Dental, PC, alleging the defendants failed to properly treat the patient.

According to the complaint, Cassin alleges that between August 2014 and August 2015, she underwent treatment with the defendants when she developed an infection in her jawbone, developed tooth decay and complained of pain to various areas of her mouth.

Despite having multiple examinations, she was informed that her teeth were in good health until she began seeing a different dentist. Cassin claims she learned that she had multiple areas of infections and decay in her mouth.

As a result, Cassin claims she suffered tremendous pain, additional medical procedures and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to adequately diagnose and treat multiple areas of infection and tooth decay and failed to order appropriate radiographs and x-rays through the course of dental examinations.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for damages in excess pf $50,000, plus attorney's fees, costs and any further relief the court deems appropriate.

She is represented by Lloyd M. Cueto of Law Office of Lloyd M. Cueto in Belleville.
