Man sues following multi-car crash during funeral procession

Car accident 17

EDWARDSVILLE — A driver is suing three other motorists for allegedly causing a multiple-vehicle collision while he was driving in a funeral procession.

Paul Robinson filed a complaint on May 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Larry Smith, Keosha Debruce-Williams and Michael Hayes, alleging the defendants failed to exercise ordinary care in the operation, possession and control of their vehicles so as to not cause injury to others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 27, 2015, he was driving in a funeral procession eastbound on Illinois Route 140 near its intersection with Fosterberg Road in Alton when his vehicle suffered a multiple-car collision with the defendants' vehicles.

As a result, Robinson claims he suffered physical injuries, loss of normal life and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to keep their vehicles under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout for other automobiles and failed to give a proper signal or sound of horn to warn other motorists.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for an equitable sum in excess of $50,000 together with costs of suit and other further relief the court deems proper.

He is represented by Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton.
