Couple's suit against motorists claims negligent driving

By Molly English-Bowers | Apr 18, 2016

BELLEVILLE – A motorist and her husband are suing over injuries she allegedly suffered in the course of an automobile accident.

Renee Wilson and Daniel Wilson filed the suit April 7 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Calla Bruce and Nicholas Drummond.

On April 29, 2014, the plaintiff Renee Wilson was in her vehicle, stopped in the right lane and heading south on Highway 158 near its intersection with Maple Street in Shiloh, according to the suit, which alleges that at the same time, the two defendants were operating their vehicles behind the vehicle Renee Wilson was operating.

The defendant Bruce drove in the following negligent ways, according to the suit: operating her vehicle too closely to other vehicles ahead of her, speeding, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to keep her vehicle under proper control and operating a vehicle so as to cause a collision.

Defendant Drummond's alleged negligence, the suit claims, included driving too closely to vehicles ahead of him, speeding, failing to keep a proper lookout and to keep his vehicle under proper control, and operating his vehicle so as to cause a collision with the plaintiff's vehicle.

The vehicles collided, and because of the crash, the plaintiff driver was injured in her head, neck, back and body, suffers bodily pain, will continue to endure loss of a normal life, has lost wages and other benefits of employment, and has spent money on medical care, the suit alleges.

Renee Wilson seeks judgment against both defendants of an excess of $50,000 plus court costs.

Her husband, Daniel Wilson, is suing both defendants for loss of consortium of his wife and because he has become liable under the Family Expense Act for the reasonable expense of necessary medical care. He also seeks $50,000 from each defendant.

They are represented by Justin B. Mattea in Collinsville.
