Driver claims rear-end collision left him injured

By Molly English-Bowers | Apr 15, 2016

EDWARDSVILLE – A motorist is suing over injuries he allegedly received during a rear-end collision at a traffic light in Granite City.

Michael Brooks filed the suit April 1 in Madison County Circuit Court against Leonor Pichardo-Hernandez.

On April 5, 2014, Brooks claims he was stopped at a traffic control device on northbound Nameoki Road near its intersection with Manley Avenue in Granite City when the defendant allegedly collided with the rear of the plaintiff's vehicle, the suit states.

Brooks alleges the defendant had a duty to operate her vehicle in a reasonable and safe manner. However, she was allegedly negligent for following too closely, speeding, failing to keep a proper lookout and failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, according to the complaint.

As a result, Brooks claims he suffered injuries to his neck, back and pelvis, which have resulted in headaches, nausea, nervousness, limitation of motion and impairment of natural bodily functions, according to the suit. He claims he continues to incur substantial medical expenses and his ability to enjoy life has been diminished.

The plaintiff seeks judgment in excess of $50,000 plus court costs. He is represented by Bruce E. Mattea of The Mattea Law Firm in Collinsville.
