A doctor and physician’s assistant deny liability in a man’s lawsuit alleging he broke out with a rash and suffered acute kidney failure after he was prescribed the wrong pain medication.

William Elliot filed his original lawsuit against Dr. Robert Dizes and Julie Buchner on Aug. 17. He filed a first amended complaint on Dec. 30.

According to the complaint, Elliot claims he was negligently prescribed clindamycin on Jan. 6 after he underwent a treatment for a bump on his head. He claims the medication caused an adverse reaction, which led to permanent pain, disability and disfigurement.

The defendants answered the amended complaint on Jan. 25 through attorneys Jeffrey Glass and Jason Winslow of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in Belleville. They deny the allegations against them.

Circuit Judge Andrew Gleeson scheduled a status conference for June 13 at 9 a.m.

The plaintiff seeks more than $75,000, plus costs. He is represented by Thomas Q. Keefe Jr. of Keefe & Keefe P.C.
