Motorist claims rear-end collision caused injuries

BELLEVILLE – A motorist is suing over injuries she allegedly received in the course of an automobile collision. She is citing negligence.

Catherine Risley filed the suit March 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Kellie Steinkamp.

On April 3, 2014, the plaintiff was driving westbound on Illinois 161 in Shiloh Valley Township, according to the complain, which says the defendant was also driving westbound and struck the rear of the plaintiff's vehicle.

The suit alleges the defendant committed the following negligent acts: Drove too quickly for conditions, failed to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failed to yield to other traffic on the roadway, and failed to keep a proper lookout.

The plaintiff suffered injuries to her back and neck, she has sustained pain and mental anguish, she has lost wages and will do so into the future, and she will continue to pay large sums of money for medical treatment, according to the suit.

The plaintiff seeks judgment of at least $5,000 but no more than $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysura, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin Ltd. in Belleville.
