Woman alleges two drivers were negligent in accident that left her hurt

By Molly English-Bowers | Mar 29, 2016

BELLEVILLE – A motorist is suing over injuries she allegedly suffered in the course of a motor vehicle accident. She is citing negligence.

Kimberly Thomas filed the suit March 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against P&S Transportation LLC, Eddie Webb and Jasmond Hansbrough.

The plaintiff is a resident of Illinois. Defendant P&S is an Alabama company and defendant Webb was driving a tractor-trailer within the scope of his employment with P&S, the suit says, adding that defendant Hansbrough is a resident of Illinois and was driving the vehicle in which the plaintiff was a passenger.

On April 25, 2014, Hansbrough was in the left lane of the left turn lane at the intersection of the Interstate 64 exit ramp and St. Clair Avenue, the suit says.

Webb began making a left turn onto St. Clair Avenue from the right lane of the left turn lane when his tractor-trailer struck the vehicle operated by Hansbrough, according to the complaint.

The plaintiff alleges negligence on the part of all three defendants; specific to defendants Webb and P&S Transportation (in Webb's capacity as employee): failure to keep a careful lookout, failure to maintain the vehicle, failure to yield to traffic, and failure to operate the vehicle in a careful manner resulting in a collision with defendant Hansbrough's vehicle.

Hansbrough allegedly was negligent in causing the accident, but specific to his situation, the suit alleges that he left his lane and crossed into the left lane of the left turn lane, failed to yield to traffic in his lane, and collided with the vehicle operated by defendant Webb.

As a result, the plaintiff sustained injuries to her abdomen, hip, neck, back, right side and right shoulder, will require medical treatment into the future, and her ability to work and enjoy life will be impaired, according to the suit.

The plaintiff seeks an amount in excess of $50,000 from each defendant, court costs and other relief the court deems proper. She is represented by Amanda N. Murphy of Goldblatt & Singer in St. Louis.
