Resident blames OSF St. Anthony's Healthcare for fall, injuries

EDWARDSVILLE – An Illinois woman is suing an Alton long-term care facility, alleging negligence over injuries she says she suffered at the facility.

Ramona Hunt filed the suit Feb. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against OSF Healthcare System, doing business as OSF St. Anthony's Healthcare, commonly known as St. Clare's, alleging negligence pursuant to the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, on April 4, 2015, while recovering from a recent surgery, Hunt fell at St. Clare's, sustaining a right femur fracture and numerous contusions.

The suit says the defendants were negligent in failing to assist the plaintiff with safe ambulation, failing to make sure her environment remained as free of accident hazards as possible, failing to develop an updated resident care plan for her based on her assessments and needs, and failing to notify the plaintiff's physician of a significant change in her condition.

The lawsuit says one or more of those negligent acts caused Hunt's injuries in violation of the Nursing Home Care Act.

The suit states the plaintiff's fracture has led to a marked deterioration of her physical condition, she has become liable for large medical bills, and she continues to suffer pain and anguish and permanent disability.

Hunt seeks more than $50,000, plus court costs and other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Robert H. Gregory of the Law Office of Robert H. Gregory PC in East Alton.
