Madison County motorist blames another driver for collision, injuries

By Molly English-Bowers | Feb 10, 2016

EDWARDSVILLE – A Madison County woman is suing a Bunker Hill motorist, alleging negligence over injuries she says she endured during an automobile accident.

Florence Dugger-Sanders filed the lawsuit Feb. 4 in Madison County Circuit Court against Brian M. Cooperider of Bunker Hill.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 4, 2014, Dugger-Sanders was operating her motor vehicle northbound on state Route 159 in Moro and, at the same time, Cooperider was driving southbound when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane of traffic striking the front driver's side of the plaintiff's vehicle. The impact caused her vehicle to leave the roadway and strike an embankment, the suit says.

The lawsuit says the accident was caused by the defendant's negligence in his failure to keep a proper lookout, failure to keep the vehicle under proper control, failure to drive at a safe speed and reduce speed to avoid the accident, disobeying a traffic control device and failure to exercise ordinary care.

As a result of the collision, the complaint says, Dugger-Sanders had injuries to her neck, shoulder and cervical, lumbar and thoracic spine. The plaintiff alleges her injuries have caused pain, suffering and disability, have resulted in medical bills past and future, have led to a loss of earning capacity, and have forced her to lose wages.

Dugger-Sanders seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of the lawsuit. She is represented by attorney Craig J. Jensen of MeyerJensen PC in Alton.
