World of Life Tabernacle employee accused of inappropriate acts on 3-year-old

EDWARDSVILLE – A Granite City woman is suing the Word of Life Tabernacle school after an employee allegedly sexually and physically abused her daughter with a tampon.

Mary Doe, individually and as mother and next friend of Jane Doe, filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Word of Life Tabernacle, Henry Crippen, individually and as president of Word of Life Tabernacle, Lisa R. Cochran, individually and as principal of Word of Life Tabernacle, and Olivia Valentine Crippen Foster, alleging battery, negligence, and willful and wanton conduct.

According to the complaint, on April 7, 2010, Jane Doe, age 3, was attending the defendant's after-school center when Foster forced a tampon applicator in the rectum and a tampon into the vaginal area of the child. The suit says the plaintiff was unable to consent, resist or decline in the adult directions to engage in the conduct.

The suit alleges violations of the Family Expense Act against all defendants, plus future medical and psychiatric expenses.

The plaintiffs seek at least $50,000 from each defendant for each of the 17 counts, plus damages for injuries, past and future pain and suffering, disability, emotional distress, health care expenses and other losses. They are represented by attorney Michael R. Wesley of the Law Office of Michael R. Wesley LLC in Wood River.
