Motorist alleges drunk driver rear-ended her car, caused injuries

By Carol Ostrow | Jul 15, 2015

A St. Clair County woman is suing a motorist, accusing him of driving drunk and causing an auto accident.

Gail C. Bailey, of O'Fallon, filed a lawsuit on July 6 against Johnnie Ray Lampton in St. Clair County Circuit Court, alleging vehicular negligence in a 2013 collision.

According to the filing, on July 6, 2013, Lampton was operating his Cadillac Escalade eastbound on Interstate Highway 64 near Caseyville behind the plaintiff’s Chevrolet. The suit says the defendant was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his automobile into the rear of Bailey’s vehicle at a high rate of speed.

The plaintiff alleges Lampton drove too fast, failed to reduce his speed to avoid collision and was in violation of traffic regulations by driving while inebriated.

The lawsuit says the plaintiff sustained injuries, endured mental and physical pain and suffering, lost wages, income, and quality of life, and became permanently disabled as a result of the accident.

Bailey seeks more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Rhonda Fiss of Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-389.
