Woman claims injuries in Cahokia rear-end accident

A woman claims she was severely injured after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Michele L. Halter filed a lawsuit Oct. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Karen J. Sweet and Donald D. Snow.

In her complaint, Halter alleges she drove her 2006 Lexus south on St. Paul Street near its intersection with East Fifth Street in Cahokia on Oct. 20, 2011, at about 2:39 p.m. when Sweet, who was driving a 1999 Ford Windstar owned by Snow, struck the back of Halter’s vehicle.

Because of the collision, Halter suffered physical and mental pain and anguish, incurred medical costs and lost money from her usual employment, according to the complaint.

Halter blames Sweet for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop to avoid a collision, drove without safe brakes and drove too fast.

In addition to Sweet, Halter names Snow as a defendant, saying he negligently failed to properly maintain his vehicle.

In her complaint, Halter seeks a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs.

Thomas B. Cannady of Cannady and AuBuchon in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-531.
