A man suffered severe and permanent injuries when a driver struck his vehicle, according to a recently filed lawsuit.
Eric Stewart filed a lawsuit Aug. 21 in Madison County Circuit Court against Spencer J. Richards.
In his complaint, Stewart claims he rode in a vehicle traveling on Franklin near its intersection with West McCarthur in East Alton on Sept. 7, 2011, when Richards, who was driving in the same direction, struck his vehicle.
In addition to his injuries, Stewart was hindered from attending to his usual duties and suffered great pain and mental anguish because of the collision, according to the complaint.
He blames Richards for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, drove his vehicle without keeping it under sufficient control, drove too fast, drove without keeping an adequate lookout ahead and failed to drive with adequate brakes.
In his complaint, Stewart seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
