Man's estate sues over fatal accident

A St. Clair County man is being asked to pay more than $200,000 after allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene.

Gail Edwards, administrator of the estate of Orlando S. Wilson, deceased, filed a lawsuit against Marlin D. Turner on July 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Wilson was a pedestrian at the intersection of 25th Street and Lynch Avenue in East St. Louis on Oct. 3, 2012. Turner, driving a 2002 Jeep Cherokee north on 25th, allegedly hit Wilson and then drove off. Turner caused Wilson "severe injuries, disability, disfigurement, pain and suffering" that led to his "wrongful death", the complaint reads.

Edwards says Wilson is survived by three daughters. She says his death has caused Wilson's children to suffer loss of companionship, society and support.

Edwards accuses Tuner of violating the Wrongful Death Act through negligence and willful and wanton actions. She asks to be awarded more than $200,000 on behalf of Wilson's estate.

Attorney Kevin Boyne of Belleville represents Edwards.
