Cahokia Nursing and Rehab Center blamed for allowing staph infection to develop

A woman has filed suit against the rehabilitation centers that she claims allowed her to develop a staph infection and to remain soaked in her urine for hours, causing her to develop a severe rash.

Christina Ewing claims she suffered great pain and physical discomfort while living at defendant Cahokia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Robings Manor after employees there allowed her to develop blood poisoning from a staph infection.

Ewing claims the defendants’ employees also failed to notify her physician of the deteriorating condition of her decubitus ulcers, which nursing home staff had allowed to develop on the insteps of Ewing’s feet, and allowed Ewing to remain soaked in her own urine for hours or days, causing her to suffer with a severe rash and additional decubitus ulcers.

Because of the way she was treated, Ewing claims she suffered great pain and physical discomfort, endured trauma and a diminished ability to enjoy life and experienced a substantially compromised general health and life expectancy.

In her complaint, Ewing is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and attorney’s fees.

Todd W. Sivia, Ashley S. Day and Jordan P. Koerner of Sivia Business and Legal Services in Edwardsville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-380.
