A Granite City man has filed suit against the man who he claims caused a fire at his storage shed.

Melvin Perkins claims he owned the shed at 1707 Delmar Avenue in Granite City. He used the shed to store an automobile and various other pieces of personal property, according to the complaint filed Jan. 28 in Madison County Circuit Court.

On Aug. 30, defendant Cody Ogden caused a fire at the shed, which destroyed it and everything housed inside it, the suit states. Perkins does not specify how the fire began in his complaint.

As a result, Perkins lost his personal property, the complaint says.

In his complaint, Perkins is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis, Papa, Hale and Szewczyk in Granite City will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-132.
