Mother sues driver over accident with son's motorcycle

Frost

The mother of a minor boy claims her son sustained permanent injuries after a driver struck his motorcycle.

Victoria Hartwig filed a lawsuit Sept. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Tracy L. Bach.

Victoria Hartwig alleges her son, Jacob V. Hartwig, drove a motorcycle east on Club Congress Road in Prairie Du Long Township when Bach, who was driving west on the same road, tried to make a left-hand turn onto Ranch Trail Road. In the process of making the turn, Bach struck Jacob Hartwig's motorcycle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Jacob Hartwig suffered pain and mental anguish, was unable to participate in his usual activities, became disabled and disfigured and suffered a diminished earning capacity, the suit states.

The Hartwigs blame Bach for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, attempted to turn left when it was not safe to do so and failed to decrease her speed to avoid a collision.

In her complaint, Victoria Hartwig seeks an unspecified judgment, plus costs.

Michael J. Frost of McArdle and Frost in Chicago will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-517.
