Crown Mart in ESL sued again over shooting of patron

A man claims he sustained severe injuries after he was shot by a patron at a convenience store.

Anthony Miller filed a lawsuit Sept. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Crown Mart Corporation.

In his complaint, Miller claims he was visiting Crown Mart on Sept. 20, 2011, when another patron shot him.

In addition to his gunshot wound, Miller suffered psychological injuries, sustained disability, lost his normal life and endured disfigurement, pain and suffering, according to the complaint.

Miller blames Crown Mart for contributing to his injuries, saying the convenience store negligently failed to take reasonable steps to protect him from an attack.

In addition to Crown Mart, Miller names other unknown defendants who sold the patron alcohol before his visit to Crown Mart.

"The intoxication of said person who assaulted and shot plaintiff Anthony Miller was at least one cause of the occurrence in question," the suit states.

In his two-count complaint, Miller seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Mark S. Peebles of Peebles and Associates in Belleville will be representing him.

At least three other suits have been filed against Crown Mart over various shooting incidents.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-501.
