A St. Clair County train company is being sued by one of its employees who was allegedly hurt on the job.

Reno Eggleston filed a lawsuit Sept. 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against CN Transportation Ltd.

Eggleston says he worked as a conductor for CN Transportation and, in June, was heading north on a train near the Chicago Subdivision. Between milepost 104 and 106 the locomotive allegedly bottomed out on a patch of rough track. Eggleston says he was unexpectedly jolted, which caused him to hurt his neck and back.

Eggleston accuses CN Transportation of negligence for allowing the use of an engine that endangered the safety of its crew. The company is also accused of violating the Federal Employers' Liability Act for allegedly failing to provide a safe work environment and failing to maintain its track. The plaintiff seeks more than $100,000 in damages for medical bills, lost wages and costs of the lawsuit.

Attorney Jerome J. Schlichter of Belleville represents Eggleston. They ask for a jury trial.
