Route 159 rear-end accident causes injuries, suit says

Swaney

A Belleville woman claims she suffered from a cervical herniated disc after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Janet Shearrer filed a lawsuit Sept. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Melissa A. Schwab.

In her complaint, Shearrer alleges she drove north in the left lane of Illinois Route 159 near the intersection of Kadlec on Oct. 9, 2010, when Schwab, who was driving in the same direction, struck the back of Shearrer's vehicle.

In addition to her herniated disc, Shearrer incurred medical costs and lost wages, according to the complaint.

Schwab negligently allowed her vehicle to collide with the back of Shearrer's, failed to keep a careful lookout, drove too fast and failed to exercise the highest degree of care to maintain control of the vehicle, the suit states.

In her complaint, Shearrer is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Jeffrey R. Swaney of the Swaney Law Firm in St. Louis will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-481.
