ESL bar sued by customer shot by allegedly drunk patron

A St. Clair County woman is suing the owner of an East St. Louis bar where she was allegedly shot.

Dawn Boyd filed a lawsuit Sept. 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Denese Drummond, doing business as Denese's Place, and other unknown property and business owners of the premises which does business as Denese's Place.

Boyd says she was a customer at the Collinsville Avenue bar in November 2010 when she was shot by another patron of Denese's Place. Boyd alleges the person who shot her was drunk at the time of the assault.

She accuses the defendants of negligence for failing to protect her from being shot while she was a customer of the bar. Boyd also claims the owners of Denese's Place are responsible for her injuries since they allegedly served alcohol to the alleged shooter. Boyd asks for more than $100,000 in damages for medical expenses and costs of the lawsuit.

Boyd is represented by attorney Mark S. Peebles of Belleville.
