A woman has filed suit against Gateway Regional Medical Center, claiming she suffered from MRSA after doctors failed to adequately treat an abscess following surgery.
Lynde Carlisle claims defendant Dr. Dennis M. Hurford performed a surgery on her at defendant Gateway Regional Medical Center to treat an abscess. However, following the Sept. 23, 2010, surgery, Hurford failed to properly clean and pack the abscess and to leave it open to allow drainage, according to the complaint filed Sept. 24 in Madison County Circuit Court.
As a result of Hurford's actions, Carlisle claims she suffered from an infection, which turned into methicillin-resistant staphloccus aureas (MRSA). In turn, she incurred substantial medical costs, suffered from periods of disability and has experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.
Hurford negligently failed to obtain informed consent to suture the surgical abrasion following the procedure, failed to insert a drainage tube to prevent additional infection and failed to properly treat the abscess, the complaint says.
At the time of the surgery, Hurford worked for defendant Granite City Clinic Corp. doing business as Meridian OBGYN Associates.
In her four-count complaint, Carlisle is seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.
