A Madison County jury was selected Tuesday in a woman's personal injury case involving a trip and fall incident at a Highland residential parking lot.
Barbara Zurliene claims she tripped and fell over a parking block near her residence at 120 Suppinger Lane on June 25, 2009. The parking lot is owned and maintained by Plaza North Condominium Owners Association and Terra Properties, the named defendants in the case.
Opening arguments will begin Wednesday in Circuit Judge David Hylla's court.
Because of her fall, Zurliene claims she sustained great pain and mental anguish and incurred substantial medical costs.
The defendants are accused of failing to properly light the parking lot and failing to make the parking block visible so Zurliene could avoid tripping on it.
Zurliene seeks in excess of $50,000.
Ronald J. Foster Jr. of Schoen, Walton, Telken and Foster in East St. Louis will be representing her.
James Leritz of Leritz, Plunkert & Bruning P.C. in St. Louis represents Plaza North Condominium Owners Association and Terra Properties.
The trial was scheduled to start Monday, but a trial last week in Hylla's court did not end until Monday.
Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-714.
