An Alton man has filed suit against the doctor who he claims failed to properly treat his eye injury.
Jack L. Lingenfelter and Maryann Lingenfelter allege Jack L. Lingenfelter visited defendants Drs. Karen L. Segrist and Lili A. Tseng on Aug. 24, 2010, after he was struck in the eye with a roller stick that contained an opaque epoxy coating.
However, during Jack L. Lingenfelter's care, the defendant doctors allegedly negligently failed to recognize the severity of his injury and failed to provide him with clear contacts to reduce the abrasiveness caused by the incident, according to the complaint filed Aug. 20 in Madison County Circuit Court. They also failed to warn him that the epoxy would cause "mini-abrasive events" to his eye every time he blinked, failed to provide timely and appropriate treatment, failed to inform him of the risks inherent in his medical condition and failed to consult with other specialists, the suit states.
As a result of Segrist's and Tseng's care, Jack L. Lingenfelter became sick, sore, lame and disordered; experienced pain and suffering; incurred substantial medical costs; suffered disability; suffered permanent disfigurement; lost wages; and lost his earning capacity, the complaint says.
Due to her husband's injuries, Maryann Lingenfelter claims she has been deprived of his society, companionship, love, affection, support and services.
In addition to the doctors, the Lingenfelters name the doctors' employer, Riverbend Opthalmologists, as a defendant.
In their six-count complaint, the Lingenfelters are seeking a judgment of more than $300,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
They will be represented by D. Jeffrey Ezra of Ezra and Associates in Collinsville.
