A driver who says she was seriously injured in a crash at a Belleville intersection is asking to be paid more than $50,000.

Kimberly Thompson filed a complaint July 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Martha Walts.

The alleged crash happened April 11 in Belleville, according to the petition. Thompson says she was driving west on Carlyle Avenue near the intersection of West Boulevard. At the same time, Walts was allegedly attempting make a left-hand turn from West onto Carlyle. The two vechiles collided, Thompson says, causing her serious injuries.

Thompson claims she broke several bones and received other permanent injuries to her back, neck, head, shoulders. As a result, she says she now suffers from pain, headaches, nervousness and "impairment of natural functions." Thompson says she has paid substantial medical expenses and is no longer fully able to enjoy life.

Thompson accuses Walts of negligence for allegedly failing to yield to the traffic control device and failing to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles. She says also contends the defendant was driving at a "high, dangerous and unreasonable speed." She is asking Walts be ordered to pay more than $50,000 in damages.
