Diabetes not properly treated, med mal complaint alleges

The wife of a recently deceased man has filed suit against her husband's doctor, saying he failed to properly treat her husband's diabetes.

Clara Ann Embry claims defendant Dr. Christopher L. Schenwerk failed to properly treat her husband, Kenneth Joe Embry Jr.'s, diabetes and his resulting ischemic bowel, which is damage caused to the bowel following an interrupted blood flow.

As a result of Schenwerk's care, Kenneth Embry Jr. died on July 16, 2010, according to the complaint filed July 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of her husband's death, Clara Ann Embry and Kenneth's daughter, Amanda Embry, lost his society, companionship, love, affection and consortium, the suit states.

In addition to Schenwerk, Clara Ann Embry names his employer, P.C. Associates doing business as Family Physicians of Southern Illinois, as defendants.

In her five-count complaint, Clara Ann Embry is seeking a judgment of more than $70,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Bernard J. Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville.
