A woman has filed suit against her doctor, alleging he performed an incorrect procedure on her to treat an abdominal hernia.
Wannada Hahn alleges defendant Dr. Stephen P. Striegel performed multiple surgeries on her from 2009 through July of 2010 to treat a recurring abdominal hernia. During the treatments, Striegel used a mesh in an attempt to remedy the problem, according to the complaint filed July 12 in Madison County Circuit Court. However, Striegel's work caused Hahn to endure an infection, which required further surgical intervention, the suit states.
Because of the ordeal, Hahn incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering and was disabled, the complaint says.
She blames Striegel for causing her injuries, saying he negligently failed to perform adequate diagnostic studies before performing the surgery, failed to use proper diagnostic tools, failed to use proper methods when performing surgeries and performed inadequate surgeries on Hahn, among other negligent acts.
At the time of the surgeries, Striegel owned defendant SPS Surgical Services, which is where the medical procedures were performed. Hahn names SPS as a defendant, accusing it of negligence.
In her two-count complaint, Hahn is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus other relief the court deems just.
