A woman has filed suit against Walmart after she claims she fell on an unnatural accumulation of snow and ice.

Jennifer Petterson claims she was walking through the parking lot of Walmart at 2608 Green Mount Commons in Belleville on Nov. 26, 2010, when she fell on snow and ice.

Because of her fall, Petterson sustained injuries to her left leg, experienced pain and suffering, lost wages because of her inability to work and incurred medical costs, the suit states. In addition, she has been unable to attend to her usual duties and affairs, the complaint says.

Petterson blames Walmart for causing her injuries, saying it negligently failed to keep its parking lot clean, failed to safely drain water, placed traffic speed bumps in such a way that they would allow for the unnatural accumulation of water, failed to properly remove snow and ice from its parking lot and failed to warn of a potentially hazardous area.

Petterson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Allan L. Napp of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-222.
