Garbage truck driver sued over pedestrian's fatal injuries

The driver of a waste disposal truck is accused of killing a St. Clair County man who was crossing the street in East St. Louis.

Cordelia Ward, administrator of the estate of Johnny A. Williamson, filed a lawsuit April 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Miguel Angel Aguiluiz Lemus and National Plant Services Inc.

According to the complaint, Williamson was walking across St. Clair Avenue at the corner of 79th Street when Lemus hit him with his heavy-duty Chevrolet Model 3500 work truck. After the collision, Lemus, an employee of National Plant Services, allegedly failed to stop and, instead, fled the scene. Williamson allegedly died from injuries received in the hit-and-run.

Ward, on behalf of the decedent's family, is suing Lemus and National Plant Services for the wrongful death of Williamson and asks for more than $200,000 in damages plus court costs.

She is represented by attorneys Kevin Boyne of Belleville and David R. Jones of Edwardsville.
