A Madison County woman is suing a Maryville nursing home claiming staff allowed her to fall out of bed multiple times, causing her to break her neck and hip.
Rosie L. Stigar filed a lawsuit Feb. 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Unlimited Development Inc., doing business as Maryville Manor, and UDI #2 LLC. Donald E. Fike and Ronald J. Wilson are also named as defendants.
Stigar was a resident of Maryville Manor in February 2010 when she allegedly fell out of her bed twice in two day, according to the complaint. Stigar claims she was not properly restrained in her bed during either incident.
Stigar says she broke her hip and neck when she fell from the bed in February. She says a month later, she fell out of bed again and reinjured her hip and neck.
Stigar accuses the nursing home, its owners and operators, Fike and Wilson, of violating Illinois' Nursing Home Care Act. She says the defendants were also negligent in their care of her. The patient is asking for more than $800,000 in damages for medical expenses and court costs.
Attorney Michael L. McGlynn of Belleville is representing Stigar.
