Wood River Wal-Mart sued over customer's slip

A Madison County woman wants a Wood River Wal-Mart to pay for her injuries after she allegedly slipped and fell while shopping in the store.

Tracie Burton filed a lawsuit Nov. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., doing business as Wal-Mart Supercenter. Glen Masterson, the store's manager, is also named as a defendant.

According to the complaint, Burton was shopping at the Wesley Drive Wal-Mart in March. As she walked down a frozen food aisle, Burton says she slipped on a wet substance on the floor that was allegedly spilled by another shopper. Burton says she hurt her knee in the fall.

Burton accuses Wal-Mart and Masterson of negligence for failing to keep the store's aisles and walkways safe for its customers. She asks for more than $100,000 in damages for medical bills and court fees.

Attorney Michael P. Glisson of Alton is representing Burton.
