P U Part II: Something's fishy near the courthouse

Last week the smell of skunk nearly overcame courthouse employees after a citizen, who had been sprayed by a skunk the night before, entered the courthouse to pay a bill.

Now this week, the Record has yet another pungent tale to tell. And it's a true fish story.

According to the driver who delivers Record newspapers to more than 100 locations in Madison County, five dead fish with their heads cut off were found in the newspaper box located on Main Street in Edwardsville outside the courthouse. The driver made the discovery at approximately 1 p.m. on Nov. 14.

The fish were described as most likely bass and between one and one-and-a-half pounds each.

Not that we aren't grateful for the fresh catch of the day, but if there's to be a next time, we prefer walleye.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Edwardsville Police Department at 656-2131, or email Stacey at recordofficemanager@gmail.com.
