A man has filed suit against the company that manufactured a tree stand ladder that he claims collapsed beneath his weight.
Kevin Cartwright claims he was installing a Climbing System CR0122 The Quick Stick XL on Nov. 17, 2009, when sections of the ladder failed, causing Cartwright to fall to the ground.
Because of his fall, Cartwright sustained a severe laceration to his leg, which caused a permanent scar, and suffers from persistent left wrist, right shoulder and back pain since the incident, according to the complaint filed Nov. 2 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Defendants BGHA and Rural King, which manufactured the ladder, negligently designed and manufactured the ladder in a dangerous condition and failed to provide appropriate warnings and sufficient instructions with their product, the suit states.
In his six-count complaint, Cartwright is seeking a judgment of more than $250,000, plus costs.
Todd A. Nielson of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk and Danzinger in Granite City will be representing him.
