Suit filed over Edwardsville parking lot injury

A woman has filed suit against the Edwardsville company where she claims she fell in a hole in the parking lot.

Barbara Smith claims she was approaching the entrance to defendant Henkel Corporation on Oct. 29, 2009, when she stepped in a hole in the parking lot.

Because of her subsequent fall, Smith became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and sustained feet, knee and elbow injuries, according to the complaint. In addition, she incurred medical costs, suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, the suit states.

Henkel negligently failed to provide a safe place for Smith to walk, failed to have a safe entrance and exit, allowed the parking lot to remain broken, failed to repair the parking lot, failed to inspect the premises and failed to warn of the unsafe condition of the parking lot, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Smith is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rich and Kristina D. Cooksey of Fairview Heights will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-1018.
