Neck and back injuries claimed in I-55 accident

A St. Clair County woman claims she sustained neck and back injuries after a driver caused a multi-car collision.

Penny Melching filed a lawsuit Sept. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Janet D. Monnett.

In her complaint, Melching alleges she drove her Chevy Malibu north on Interstate 55 near milepost 90 when Monnett rear-ended a vehicle being driven by John Burtle. In turn, Burtle struck Melching's vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Melching incurred medical bills, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages and her enjoyment of life in addition to her injuries, the suit states.

Melching blames Monnett for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to reduce her speed and drove too fast for the conditions of the road.

In her complaint, Melching seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Michael L. McGlynn of Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-545.
