A Cahokia man says he was fired from his railroad company job after filing a workers' compensation claim.

Harlan L. Glasper filed a lawsuit Aug. 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Amsted Rail Company Inc., formerly known as ASF-Keystone Inc.

According to the complaint, Glasper was injured on the job while working for Amsted Rail in February 2009. Glasper says he filed a workers' compensation claim shortly after the accident. He contends he complied with all conditions required of him to remain employed. However, Glasper says he was sent a letter in February of this year informing him of his termination -- a move he alleges was retaliatory.

Glasper accuses Amsted Rail of violating the Workers' Compensation Act and asks for more than $50,000 in damages for lost wages and benefits along with court costs.

Attorney Rhonda D. Fiss of Belleville is representing Glasper.
