A Millstadt woman has filed suit against her former employer, alleging she lost her job because she filed for workers' compensation benefits.
Cynthia Scott claims she began working for defendant Columbus Club of Millstadt in 2002 and worked there until May 28, 2010, when she sustained severe and permanent injuries while laboring at her job.
That same day, Scott reported her injury to Columbus Club of Millstadt, filed a workers' compensation claim, sought medical treatments and took time off of work, according to the complaint filed June 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
On April 1, Scott learned she lost her job when Columbus Club of Millstadt informed her they had to release her because of a decline in business and profits, the suit states. However, Scott claims the real reason behind her job loss was because she filed for workers' compensation benefits.
Because of her termination, Scott lost wages, lost health and dental insurance coverage and lost seniority, vacation and sick time, the complaint says. In addition, she lost 401(k) benefits and experienced pain, suffering and emotional distress, the suit states.
In her two-count complaint, Scott seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
