A woman has filed suit against the owner of a dog that she claims charged her, causing her to fall.
Kathleen Buttig claims she was visiting Crystal Smith at her home at 1528 Renoir Ave. in Swansea on Aug. 18 when the incident occurred.
"The Plaintiff, Kathleen Buttig, was walking up the stairs on the premises when she was charged by the Defendant's dog, causing her to fall and sustain injuries," the suit filed March 31 in St. Clair County Circuit Court states.
Because of her fall, Buttig sustained injuries to her hands and wrists and incurred medical costs, the complaint says. In addition, she suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, according the complaint.
Buttig blames Smith for causing her to fall, saying Smith negligently failed to warn her guests of a dog on the property, failed to properly restrain her dog and failed to properly secure the area where the dog was contained.
In her complaint, Buttig is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by Thomas C. Rich and Kristina D. Cooksey of Fairview Heights.
