Passenger sues two drivers over crash in Cahokia

A woman claims she incurred medical costs after a driver collided with the vehicle in which she rode.

Jannie Allen filed a lawsuit March 31 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Jonathan Holman and Virginia Reddick.

Allen claims she rode in a vehicle Holman drove east on Camp Jackson Road at its intersection with Lazarcheff Drive in Cahokia on April 3, 2009, when the collision occurred after Holman failed to yield the right-of-way and attempted to make a left turn at the intersection. As a result, Holman struck Reddick's vehicle as she drove west on the same road, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Allen incurred medical costs, lost earnings and suffered a diminished earning capacity, the suit states. In addition, she experienced pain and suffering and lost her normal life, the complaint says.

She partially blames Holman for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to yield the right-of-way, made a left turn without yielding the right-of-way and entered the intersection while facing a steady red light.

She also names Reddick as a defendant, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to yield the right-of-way and made a left turn without yielding the right-of-way.

In her two-count complaint, Allen seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Paul M. McMahon of Costello, McMahon, Burke and Murphy in Chicago will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-169.
