Family Violence Prevention Council to hold annual training April 26

The Third Judicial Circuit's Family Violence Prevention Council will hold its annual training event April 26.

The council will present Susan Still: A Survivor's Journey at Moose Lodge 1561 located at 7371 Marine Road in Edwardsville.

The training begins with a free breakfast at 8:30 a.m. with presentations beginning at 9 a.m.

The event will include a luncheon and conclude at 3:45 p.m.

Those in law enforcement, educators, counselors and others who work with domestic violence issues are encouraged to attend.

Continuing education credits for attorneys and other professions will be awarded.

Still is a domestic abuse survivor who had appeared on 20/20 and the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Her abuse took place at the hands of her former husband, according to the event's press release, and was filmed on his orders by one of Still's children.

He was sentenced to 36 years in prison pursuant to criminal charges in connection with the abuse.

The Family Violence Prevention Council was recently honored by the State of Illinois for its work in the Third Judicial Circuit.

Madison County Circuit Judges Barbara Crowder and Richard Tognarelli lead the council.

Registration is requested so that ample food can be arranged and is open to the public.
