A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims struck her, allegedly causing her to sustain severe and permanent injuries.

Jaime N. Painter claims she was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer east on Collinsville Crossing Road in Collinsville on March 2, 2009, when defendant Ann D. Newsome, who was driving a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country south out of the Walgreens parking lot into Collinsville Crossing Road, struck her.

Because of the collision, Painter suffered extreme pain, lost wages, incurred medical costs, suffered disability and lost her normal enjoyment of life, according to the complaint filed March 23 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Newsome negligently failed to keep her vehicle under control, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove without regard for the safety of others and failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, the suit states. In addition, she negligently failed to yield the right-of-way at an intersection and failed to stop as required, the complaint says.

In her suit, Painter is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by John T. Papa of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk and Danzinger in Granite City.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-278.
