A Madison County woman sustained head, chest, arm, spleen, kidney and rib injuries when a bus driver failed to obey a traffic light and struck her vehicle.
Joyce D. Kurz filed a lawsuit Feb. 23 in Madison County Circuit Court against Nancy E. Brandenburg and Illinois Central School District.
Kurz claims Brandenburg drove a bus for Illinois Central School District on Aug. 27 when she attempted to exit Alton High School at 4200 Humbert Road. As Brandenburg attempted to turn left onto Humbert Road, she struck Kurz's vehicle, according to the complaint.
In addition to her injuries, Kurz became hindered from attending to her usual duties, incurred medical costs and lost large sums of money, the suit states.
Kurz blames Brandenburg for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep her vehicle under control and failed to keep a proper lookout. In addition, Brandenburg negligently failed to yield to oncoming traffic at a light and failed to obey a traffic control device, the complaint says.
In her two-count complaint, Kurz seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
Bob L. Perica of The Perica Law Firm in Wood River will be representing her.
