Driver accused of running a stop sign while on cell

A Glen Carbon woman is suing the owner of a construction company who allegedly ran a stop sign and crashed into her car while talking on his cell phone.

Mary Kristine Beard filed the lawsuit against Paul J. Jun and Jun Construction Company Oct. 1 in Madison County Circuit Court.

The alleged crash happened in October 2008 at the intersection of North Alby Street and Center Street in Alton. According to the complaint, Beard was driving her Chevy Avalanche south on North Alby while Jun was driving west on Center Street in his work truck. Jun allegedly ignored a stop sign and crashed into Beard. Beard says Jun was using his cell phone at the time of the crash.

Beard accuses Jun and his construction company of negligence. She is asking for $130,000 to cover medical bills, court costs and the damage to her car.

Beard is representing herself in this case.
