More asbestos suits filed in Madison County

A total of 12 new asbestos lawsuits were filed in Madison County Circuit Court during the week of June 14 through June 20.

The following complaints were filed:

--Donald Bauer of Texas, a maintenance worker, lineboy gassing airplanes and welder/fabricator from 1959 until 1992, claims mesothelioma. Bauer will be represented by G. Michael Stewart of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-620.

--Joseph Davis Jr. of Louisiana, a carpenter at various locations from 1965 until 1979, claims lung cancer. Davis will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of SimmonsCooper in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-627.

--Nekeidra Ellis of Georgia claims her recently deceased grandmother, Ellen Carpenter, developed lung cancer after her work as a carpenter from 1973 until 1979. Ellis will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-621.

--Claudine B. Hope of South Carolina claims her recently deceased husband, William L. Hope, developed mesothelioma after his work as an insulator at North Brothers from 1945 until 1951, as a branch manager at North Brothers from 1951 until 1972 and as an area vice president in 1972. William L. Hope also worked for International Paper Company in 1948, according to the complaint. Claudine B. Hope will be represented by Elizabeth V. --Robert T. and Judith Mooney of Illinois claim Robert T. Mooney developed pleural plaques after his work as a burner torch helper, radial drill, mill, assembler and engine tester, utilities helper and utilities operator at Caterpillar from 1964 until 1994. The Mooneys will be represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-623.

--Lornalee Rapinchuk of Illinois, a clerk, production line worker and home health assistant at various locations from 1954 until 1985, claims mesothelioma. Rapinchuk was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through her father, Thomas Manz, who worked as a construction worker and painter; through her brother, Charles Manz, who worked as a painter; and through her husband, Thomas G. Rapinchuk, who worked as a sheet metal worker, press operator, draftsman and engineering detailer from 1955 until 1995, according to the complaint. Rapinchuk will be represented by W. --Douglas L. and Gwenetta E. Robinson of Illinois claim Douglas E. Robinson developed pleural plaques after his work as a laborer at Scott Air Force Base from 1964 until 1966, as a hand router from 1966 until 1968, as a machinist at Mitchell Manufacturing from 1968 until 1970, as a dump truck driver for Paramount Hauling from 1970 until 1975 and as a wire drawer for Laclede Steel Company from 1975 until 2002. --Linda Roland-Henderson of Ohio claims her recently deceased husband, Louie Henderson Sr., developed lung cancer after his work as a laborer at various locations from 1970 until 1979. --Shirley Stultz of Indiana claims her recently deceased husband, Ronald Stultz, developed mesothelioma after his work as a machine operator, mechanic, laborer and welder at various locations from 1953 until 1999. --Larry Urish of Illinois, a chemical operator, maintenance pipefitter, welder and oiler at various locations from 1962 until 1998, claims lung cancer. Urish will be represented by Christopher R. --Gary Vogel of Kentucky claims the recently deceased John Vogel developed mesothelioma after his work at Sidney Kline from 1940 until 1941, at Clark Electric from 1941 until 1943, as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1945, as a member of the Naval Ordinance from 1946 until 1976, at Beam and Colville Realtors from the late 1970s until the mid 1980s and at Al Vogel Constructing from the mid 1980s to the late 1980s. Vogel will be represented by Richard L. Saville Jr., Ethan A. Flint and D. Todd Mathews of Saville and Flint in Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-628.

A total of 17 new asbestos complaints were filed in Madison County Circuit Court during the week of June 7 through June 11.

--Dianna Anderson of South Carolina claims her recently deceased husband, Charles A. Anderson, developed mesothelioma after his work as an electrician for Greenwood Mills from 1961 until 1962, as a laborer at Greenwood Mills in 1963, as a laborer at Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1964, as a laborer at Columbia Nitrogen in 1965, as a laborer at Tennessee Eastman Kodak in 1966, as a laborer at American Enka from 1966 until 1967, as a laborer at Fiber Industries in 1967, as a laborer at Chargeurs in 1968, as a laborer at Hercules Chemical from 1969 until 1970, as a laborer at Georgetown Steel from 1970 until 1998 and as a construction worker for International paper from 1968 until 1969. --Robert Henry Boone of Tennessee, a member of the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1945, a mechanic for Georgianna Service Station in 1946, a mechanic for Morgan Motors from 1948 until 1950, a mechanic for Motor Parts and Bearings Co. from 1952 until 1953, a maintenance worker for Colonia Bakery from 1954 until 1969 and a general maintenance worker for Owens-Corning Fiberglass from 1969 until 1984, claims mesothelioma. --Alois Ceplina of Wisconsin, a brick layer and general laborer at various locations in Wisconsin and Illinois from 1946 until 1984, claims mesothelioma. Ceplina will be represented by Casey C. --Arlene Z. and Louis Dempsey of Michigan claim Arlene Z. Dempsey developed mesothelioma after her work as a cashier and general laborer at a meat market from 1958 until 1959, as a secretary at Bell South Telephone Company from 1959 until 1961, as a clerk in 1962, as a self-employed restauranteuer from 1991 until 2010 and as a laborer performing residential construction from 1957 until 1975. The Dempseys will be represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. W. Mark Lanier, Patrick N. Haines, R. Craig Bullock and J. --Larry and Patricia Diugid of Illinois claim Larry Diugid developed mesothelioma after his work as a mechanic, machinist, operator, truck driver, farm hand and laborer at various locations throughout Illinois from 1963 until 2005. Larry Diugid was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, who worked as a plasterer in the 1950s and the 1960s. The Diugids will be represented by Shane F. Hampton and Paul M. --Patricia Doekes of Arizona claims her recently deceased husband, Jan Doekes, developed mesothelioma after his work as a construction laborer and superintendent from 1953 until 1996. --Herbert and Maxine Hansen of Oregon claim Herbert Hansen developed mesothelioma after his work as a welder at Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation from 1941 until 1943, as a mechanic for the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946, as a mechanic at Willy's Dealer from 1946 until 1947, as a mechanic at a used car dealership in 1947, as a mechanic at Swanson's Garage from 1947 until 1948, as a plant maintenance man at Richfield Oil from 1948 until 1952, as an assembly line worker at United Airlines from 1953 until 1954, as a welder at Swan Island in 1954, as a welder at Hallidie Machinery and Equipment from 1954 until 1956, as a truck driver at Hadley in 1956, as a welder for Iron Workers Union Local 433 from 1956 until 1967, as a welder at Walt Disney from 1963 until 1967, as a welding instructor for the city of Los Angeles from 1967 until 1980 and as a welder for Chevron from 1980 until 1986 and in 1988. --Gwendlyn Hart of Ohio claims her recently deceased husband, Melvin O. Hart, developed mesothelioma after his work as a railroad worker and machinist at various locations from 1961 until 1998. --Lorraine Sue Reeves of Arkansas claims her recently deceased husband, George A. Reeves, developed lung cancer after his work as an electrician with Heath and Company in 1963, as a material handler for Essex Wire from 1963 until 1964, as a forklift operator and molder for Benton Harbor Malleable from 1964 until 1967, as a laborer at Auto Specialists from 1966 until 1967, as a brake maker at Bendix from 1968 until 1970 and as a construction worker for Asplugh Tree Service from the 1970s until 1995. --Melissa Roberts of Georgia, a store clerk, office staff, waitress, driver and state worker in welfare and child support enforcement from 1962 until 2007, claims mesothelioma. Roberts was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through family members who worked as mechanics, according to the complaint. Roberts will be represented by Richard L. Saville Jr., Ethan A. --Debra Schwarz of 2342 63rd St. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for roof, wind, water, structural and foundation damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. --Darrell Rick Shewcraft of Illinois, a laborer at various locations from 1967 until 2009, claims an asbestos-related cancer. Shewcraft will be represented by G. Michael Stewart of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-597.

--Llewellyn Smith of Maine alleges his recently deceased wife, Dolores Smith, developed mesothelioma after she was secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through her husband, who worked as a millwright at DuPont and a laborer at South Portland Machine Tool during the 1950s, as a ship fitter at Bath Iron Works in the 1950s, as a firefighter at the Portland Fire Department in the 1960s, as a self-employed insulator in 1973 and as a self-employed home remodeler. Llewellyn Smith will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-612.

--Randy and Barbara Smith of Illinois allege Randy Smith developed acute myelogenous leukemia after his work as a laborer for Bridgestone Americas, Caterpillar and Nestle. --Sheri Wells of California, a laborer at an automotive supply store and a shade tree mechanic, claims mesothelioma. Wells was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through her father, who worked in various industrial and commercial locations, the suit states. Randy L. --Danny R. Williamson of Virginia, a laborer at Roanoke News Agency in 1968 and a lot man/certified oil burner technician at Fuel Oil and Equipment from 1970 until 1997, claims mesothelioma. Williamson was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, who worked as an oiler at Northwestern Railroad and as a lot man at Fuel Oil and Equipment, according to the complaint. --Barbara Bach claims her recently deceased husband, Clarence Bach, developed mesothelioma after his work as a journeyman electrician from 1956 until 2001. --John and Mary Daniel of Illinois claim John Daniel developed mesothelioma after his work as a boilermaker at Shell Oil from 1947 until 1964 and as a boilermaker at various other locations from 1964 until 1987. --Marlow and Shirley Hammer of Arizona claim Marlow Hammer developed mesothelioma after his work as a repairman, welder, mechanic, electrician and laborer at various locations from 1948 until now. --Victoria Karpenko of Michigan, a waitress, security guard, secretary, realtor and bus driver from 1969 until now, claims mesothelioma. Karpenko was also exposed to asbestos fibers through her father, John Karpenko, who worked as a laborer and foreman from 1960 until 1973, and through her ex-husband, Terry Bernatowicz, who worked as an insulator from 1973 until 1982, according to the complaint. --William and Gladys Woolsey of Missouri allege William Woolsey developed mesothelioma after his work as an iron worker at various locations from 1957 until 1994. The Woolseys will be represented by Shrader and Associates. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-585.
