Two men have filed suit against the bar where they say a driver became intoxicated, then drove, causing a car to flip.

Shelton Singleton and Adam Williams claim they were riding in the vehicle Caylin R. Sanders was driving last year when the accident occurred.

According to the complaint filed July 6 in Madison County Circuit Court, Sanders drove the vehicle after consuming alcholhic beverages at defendant Jim's Corner.

"That on or about August 2, 2009, after consuming the intoxicating liquors given or sold by Defendant, Caylin R. Sanders violently crashed and flipped her motor vehicle, in which Plaintiffs, Shelton Singleton and Adam Williams, were passengers, on College Avenue (Illinois Route 140), Alton, Madison County, Illinois," the suit states. "The intoxication of Caylin R. Sanders was a cause of the aforesaid crash."

In their complaint, Singleton claims he suffered severe, permanent and progressive injuries to his head, throat cervical spine, clavicle, ribs, spleen, lungs, chest and knees while Williams says he suffered injuries to his head, chest, ribs, lungs and abdomen.

Both men incurred substantial medical costs, experienced great physical and mental pain and suffering, lost their enjoyment for life and sustained permanent injuries and disability, the complaint says.

In their two-count complaint, the men are seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
