More asbestos lawsuits have been added to the growing list of cases in St. Clair County's asbestos docket.
Donna Stinson of Virginia filed the 15th asbestos lawsuit of the year in St. Clair County Circuit Court, while Edward Sabbatini of Minnesota filed the 16th, and Bernard and Patricia Miller filed the 17th.
Both Stinson and Edward Sabbatini are represented by Jeffrey J. Lowe of The Lowe Law Firm in St. Louis. The Millers are represented by The Cates Law Firm and Cooney and Conway.
In her complaint filed June 4, Donna Stinson alleges 98 defendant companies caused her recently deceased husband, Gerald P. Stinson, to develop lung cancer after his exposure to asbestos-containing products throughout his career.
Gerald P. Stinson worked as a boilermaker from 1963 until 2001, according to the complaint.
In his complaint filed June 4, Edward Sabbatini claims 94 defendant companies caused his recently deceased wife, Muriel Louise Sabbatini, to develop lung cancer after she was secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through her husband, who worked as a machinist for Northern Machine Works from 1949 until the 1960s, as a brakeman for Great Northern Rail Road from the 1950s through the 1960s and as a boiler operator at the Hibbing Public Utilities Commission from the early 1960s until 1985.
According to the Millers' complaint filed June 14, Bernard Miller developed mesothelioma after his work as a boiler operator, naval machinist mate and maintenance mechanic at various locations from 1971 until 1991.
The defendants should have known of the harmful effects of asbestos, but failed to exercise reasonable care and caution for the plaintiffs' or their deceased relative's safety, the suits state.
As a result of their asbestos-related diseases, Gerald P. Stinson, Muriel Louise Sabbatini and Bernard Miller became disabled and disfigured, incurred medical costs and suffered great physical pain and mental anguish, the complaints say. In addition, they became prevented from pursuing their normal course of employment and, as a result, lost large sums of money that would have accrued to them, the plaintiffs claim.
Because of Gerald P. Stinson's and Muriel Louise Sabbatini's deaths, Donna Stinson, Edward Sabbatini and their children have been deprived of their family members' love, services, companionship, comfort, instruction, guidance, counsel, training and support, according to the complaints.
In her nine-count complaint, Donna Stinson is seeking a judgment of more than $475,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
In his five-count complaint, Edward Sabbatini is seeking a judgment of more than $275,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
In their three-count complaint, the Millers are seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of St. Clair County Circuit Court, plus costs.
