Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis has taken over a negligence suit set for trial June 21.
Until June 7, however, the negligence suit brought by plaintiff Judy Greer against Maco Management Company and Brighton Partners LP had been assigned to Madison County Circuit Judge Daniel Stack.
Stack will retire later this year.
Callis had already begun shifting Stack's civil docket last December, transferring over 100 cases.
Stack's civil docket has been lightened considerably in preparation for his November retirement and to allow him to assist Madison County Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder with her transition into presiding over the asbestos docket.
She is set to take over asbestos at the end of July.
Greer sued Maco and later Brighton for allegedly failing to maintain the grounds outside the property she rented from them in June 2006.
Greer alleges she fell in a hole in a common area and injured her right ankle, knee and hip.
She contends the company failed to fix the hole or warn its renters about it.
Greer seeks over $50,000 in damages and costs.
The case went to arbitration in October 2008.
The arbiter awarded Greer $31,000.
However, the defendants rejected the award.
The case's trial is set to begin at 9 a.m. June 21.
The plaintiff is represented by Michael Glisson.
The defendants are represented by Michael Pitzer.
The case is Madison case number 07-L-777.
