A man claims he sustained severe facial injuries after an intoxicated patron at a Granite City bar punched him.
Fred Fox Jr. filed a lawsuit April 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Inn Between Tavern and Corey Glenn.
Fox claims he visited Inn Between Tavern on May 1, 2009, when he noticed a group of people becoming intoxicated. One of those people, Glenn, struck Fox in the face with no warning or provocation, according to the complaint.
Because of the attack, Fox claims he suffered serious and permanent injuries, incurred great pain and anguish, incurred medical costs and lost large sums of money because of his inability to pursue his usual occupation, the suit states.
Fox says Inn Between Tavern should be held accountable for his attack because it negligently failed to provide a security guard to break up fights, failed to protect its patrons from injury and failed to warn patrons of the dangerous conditions that existed.
"That on several dates prior to May 1, 2009, there had been numerous disturbances, fights, and altercations at the Defendant's premises which Defendant knew or in the exercise of reasonable care should have known," the suit states.
In his three-count complaint, Fox seeks a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs.
Morgan Scroggins of Scroggins Law Office in Granite City will be representing him.
