A woman has filed suit against the driver who she says struck the vehicle in which she was riding, causing her disability and disfigurement.
Veronica Howard claims she was riding in a 2000 Dodge Durango traveling west on Missouri Avenue at its intersection with Pocket Road in Alorton when defendant Kiyo Cade, who was driving a 2002 GMC Denali, failed to obey a traffic control signal and struck her.
Because of the collision, Howard experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs and lost income in addition to her disability and disfigurement, according to the complaint filed April 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Cade negligently drove too fast, failed to obey a traffic control light, failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles on the road, failed to keep his vehicle under control, failed to use ordinary care to avoid a collision and failed to use ordinary care for Howard's safety, the suit states.
Co-defendant Latoiya Butchee owned the 2002 Denali Cade was driving at the time of the collision, the complaint says.
In her two-count complaint, Howard seeks a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by Kevin Boyne of Belleville.
