Romani

A Champaign man claims he developed acute myelogenous leukemia after being exposed to benzene-containing products throughout his career.

Gordon Price filed a lawsuit March 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against B.P. Products North America, Radiator Specialty Company and United States Steel Corp.

Allyson M. Romani of Shrader and Associates in Houston will be representing him.

Romani is the daughter of Madison County Circuit Judge Charles Romani.

Price claims during his employment from 1970 until 2008 as a laborer, mechanic and painter at various locations throughout Illinois, he worked with products that contained benzene.

"The aforesaid products and benzene-containing products manufactured and/or sold by Defendants include but are not limited to the following: (a) Defendant Radiator Specialty Company manufactured and sold Liquid Wrench. (b) Defendant United States Steel Corporation manufactured and/or sold Raffinate, which was used in Liquid Wrench. (c) Defendant B.P. Products North America supplied various chemicals to Radiator Specialty for use in their Liquid Wrench product," the suit states.

According to the complaint, doctors diagnosed Price with acute myelogenous leukemia in April 2008.

Because of his disease, Price suffered severe and permanent injuries, incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering and lost earnings, the complaint says.

In his nine-count complaint, Price seeks a judgment of more than $350,000 and unspecified punitive and exemplary damages, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-315.
